17th Edition of the IEE wiring regulations
Full course and update options

The City & Guilds 2382 is an essential qualification to formally demonstrate knowledge of the electrical regulations and ensure compliance with the content and application of the requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 2008 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations. It is a preferred qualification when applying to join a Part P competent persons scheme.

Description

The IEE Wiring Regulations are referred to in the Electricity at Work Regulations as a means of achieving compliance with BS 7671: 2008, the IEE Wiring Regulations which is used as a standard against which all electrical installations must comply.

Who it’s for

This course is designed for electricians and installers who have to comply with BS 7671: 2008. It is for anyone involved in installing and testing of domestic, industrial and commercial electrical installations.

Entry Requirements

For the full course, none. Previous knowledge of the regulations is not assumed, however a fundamental knowledge of electrical principles is assumed. To take the shortened update course candidates must present an original copy of their 16th Edition qualification (C&G 2381) achieved during or after 2004, or their C&G 2360 Part 2 certificate achieved during the same period.

Contents

This course is intended to introduce the candidate to a working knowledge of the Wiring Regulations along with a brief overview of the Electricity at Work Regulations covering their statutory duties. As the C&G 2382 exam is intended to assess a candidate’s ability to access information in the 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations supported by the IEE published On-Site Guide the content of the course will include:

  • Scope, objective and fundamental principles
  • Definitions
  • Assessment of general characteristics
  • Protection for safety
  • Selection and erection of equipment
  • Inspection and testing
  • Special installations or locations
  • Use of appendices

Duration

The full course spans 3 consecutive days and includes a 2 hour multiple choice exam which is carried out on a computer in centre. The update course lasts 1 day including the online exam. Candidates are able to use the Wiring Regulations book as reference during the exam.

Full course results in the C&G 2382-20. Update course results in the C&G 2382-10
