ACS Core Gas Safety (CCN1) initial training and/or assessment
CITB certificated
The domestic core gas safety qualification for new gas entrants installing domestic gas pipe-work. The CCN1 unit forms the basis for all other domestic Natural Gas ACS units e.g. appliances. It is not possible to proceed to further ACS domestic qualifications without holding this qualification.
Description
It is illegal to work on gas installations and appliances in the UK unless an operative is registered with CORGI (Gas Safety Register from April 2009), either individually or through a company and holds valid and relevant ACS gas qualifications, which are renewable every 5 years. The CCN1 Domestic Core Gas Safety initial assessment qualification is mandatory to work lawfully in the domestic gas industry. Without this qualification the gas safety register will not consider an application for registration. Experienced operatives can opt to take the 2½ days of assessment only. Less experienced or confident operatives should undertake the 4 days ACS training too.
Who it’s for
Individuals entering the UK gas industry for the first time and experienced gas operatives whose ACS certificates expired over 5 years previously. Initial assessment is also appropriate for current gas operatives who need to renew their certificates and don’t feel confident enough to take the shorter reassessment route. Impartial advice and guidance on the best route is offered.
Entry Requirements
Access to the CCN1 initial assessment process is only open to operatives who are able to provide an auditable record of their on-site gas experience. The amount of experience required before being eligible to undertake ACS assessments is dependent upon qualifications held and related trade experience.
Engineers who can provide ACS certificates, ACOPs units or other relevant gas qualifications needing renewal (as long as those certificates have not expired more than 5 years previously) or gas engineers who hold foreign gas qualifications are considered Category 1 entrants and are accepted for initial assessment (with or without training) without the need to provide any other evidence.
Applicants who have relevant qualifications (e.g. relevant NVQ2 or equivalent/higher) and have auditable evidence of at least 3 months’ work-based experience under the supervision of a registered engineer are considered Category 2 entrants and are accepted for initial assessment with the training element of the qualification.
Applicants who do not have 3 months documented work-based experience under the supervision of a gas registered engineer and/or relevant qualifications are considered a Category 3 entrant (i.e. a new starter) and will be accepted for initial assessment upon the production of a portfolio to the gas register’s guidelines and ATL training (duration subject to experience).
Irrespective of background and experience we are happy to provide advice and guidance in meeting the application for assessment criteria and achieving success.
