Domestic Electrical Installer Course
leading to NVQ level 3

| Course Overview | This 3-stage modular program with its combination of theory and practical skills, plus the opportunity for work-experience, will equip and prepare you for your new career in the electrical industry. The course has been designed in such a way, that even completion of the first module will enable you to lawfully carry out some electrical work in a domestic environment and gives you the opportunity to go out and seek paid work. Subsequent modules build upon previous ones, expanding upon your knowledge and skills and the range of work you can carry out. Successful completion of the whole course will see you attain no fewer than ten valuable qualifications (including your electrical NVQ at level 3) and by the end of the course you will be a fully qualified electrician. You will have the qualifications which prove your competence to householders and the industry at large, and it will give you everything you need to approach your new career with confidence. |

Module 1 – Defined Scope Electrical Installer
As a Domestic Electrical installer, you will be able to carry out the repair, installation, inspection, testing and certification of single circuits in domestic electrical installations. This serves as an excellent foundation for a career in the electrical industry as a domestic electrician.

Outcomes
Successful completion of the domestic electrical installer module will give you six industry recognised qualifications, being: The certified Essential Electrics programme which is a foundation introduction to electricity and electrical principles; the City and Guilds 2382 17th edition of the IEE wiring regulations allowing you to formally demonstrate your knowledge of BS7671: 2008; the City and Guilds 2377 portable appliance testing qualification; the full scope Part P qualification, preparing you to apply to become a registered Part P domestic installer; the Logic certificated Domestic Periodic Inspection Report qualification, and; the City and Guilds 2330 level 2 technical certificate in electrotechnical technology, which is the essential underpinning knowledge and stepping stone for those wanting to gain full electrician status by attainment of the NVQ level 3 qualification.

Module 2 –Full Scope Electrical Installer
The second module of this course is for those who have chosen to pursue the Full Scope Electrical Installer career path. As a Full Scope Electrical Installer you will be able to undertake the repair, installation, inspection, testing and certification of multiple circuits and entire electrical installations in domestic premises. It is the pre-requisite stage to attaining an NVQ and being considered a fully qualified electrician.

Successful completion of this module will give you three further industry recognised qualifications, being: the City & Guilds 2330 level 3 technical certificate; the AM2 achievement measurement test (in which you will demonstrate your practical abilities to install, test and commission electrical installations).

Module 3 –Fully qualified Electrical Installer (NVQ) Level 3
The final module of this course builds upon your achievements for Domestic Electrical installer and Electrical Installer and enables you to become a fully qualified electrician capable of working on domestic, commercial and industrial electrical installations. The Industry-recognised, Joint Industry Board’s grade of Electrician can be attained upon successful completion of the City and Guilds 2356 NVQ Level 3 in installing and commissioning electrical systems. In order to achieve this qualification, you must be working in the electrical industry as all assessments will be undertaken in the workplace by one of our assessors.
The qualifications you have already achieved in modules 1 & 2 – especially the C & G 2330 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology and the achievement measurement (AM2) practical test - will more than satisfy the requirement for the underpinning knowledge for the NVQ. Provided you are working for a JIB registered company, they can apply for you to be graded as an electrician under their national register. If you are self-employed you can apply to the JIB directly.
