Essential Electrics, For Gas Fitting Operatives

As all modern gas-fired domestic appliances and central heating systems have electrical circuitry. Customers expect gas fitting operatives to understand how these electrical systems work and inspect, fault-find, service and repair them.

Description

This course provides a basic understanding of electrical principles and covers the operating circuitry of gas-fired domestic appliances, boilers and central heating controls, through to fault finding on wiring systems and appliances for those who install, service and repair. With in depth tutorials and practical training on the latest wiring systems, the course includes central heating controls wiring and central heating controls fault finding.

Who it’s for

Gas fitting operatives who install, service and repair electrically operated/controlled gas-fired domestic appliances and central heating systems, who want to understand how the electrical circuitry and control systems work so they can fault-find, service, repair and replace as necessary.

  • Induction - introduction to the course
  • Electrical concepts - how electricity works
  • Safe isolation - how to isolate an electrical supply before starting work
  • Instrumentation - using multimeters for measurement and fault finding
  • Electrical regulations – working within the law
  • Supply systems – how the earthing system operates
  • Earthing and bonding – what to bond and what not to bond
  • Termination skills – making connections to equipment and accessories
  • Electrical safety – how to carry out electrical safety checks before switching on
  • Electrical controls – testing thermostats, pressure switches etc.
  • System controls – how system controls operate
  • Connecting the system – using wiring diagrams to connect components
  • Commissioning the system – carrying out safety and functional tests
  • Fault finding – using instruments to fault-find systems

Duration

Consecutive 5 days training and assessment.

Outcomes

Having successfully completed the assessment tasks, candidates will receive a Certificate of achievement, further endorsed by the issue of a CITB record card.

Domestic arrangements

Candidates will be provided with a light lunch and refreshments on each day of attendance.
