Essential Electrics
CITB Certificated
An introduction to electrical principals and safe working practices, for individuals with little or no prior knowledge and experience.
Description
This course provides a basic understanding of electrical principles, safe isolation techniques and limited practical competencies, equipping candidates with the knowledge and skills to replace like-for-like electrical components safely and responsibly in a domestic environment.
Who it’s for
Anyone who in their working environment might come into contact with electrical equipment and has not received any formal training in that area e.g. kitchen fitters, general handymen etc. and even DIY enthusiasts. The ideal starting point for individuals whose responsibilities or aspirations include the undertaking of basic electrical tasks and for those who wish to develop their electrical knowledge and understanding. As a stand-alone qualification it will suit individuals wishing to replace like-for-like switched electrical appliances.
Please note: Interested gas engineers should opt for the “Essential Electrics for Gas Fitting Operatives” course.

Duration
Consecutive 3 days training and knowledge assessment, followed by a 2-hour practical assessment (at a mutually convenient date usually within 3 working days).
Outcomes
Having successfully completed the assessment tasks, candidates will receive a Certificate of achievement, further endorsed by the issue of a CITB record card.

Regulatory requirement?
No. However, this qualification does provide employers with a means of demonstrating they have provided their employees with a basic and essential knowledge of electrical principles and safe working practices and also a healthy respect for their limitations.
