Legionella: Prevention and Water Treatment
LOGIC Legionella Prevention Certificated

Legionella can kill, and does! This course leading to LOGIC’s Legionella and Water Treatment certificate provides an explanation of the lawful requirements to ensure adequate methods are in place to prevent Legionella within hot and cold water systems. Participants will identify the main causes of Legionella and learn how to minimise the risk by various methods.

Description

Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) extend to include risks from Legionella bacteria which may arise from work activities. In addition to considering the risks to staff and/or members of the public, under L8 (Health and Safety Executive Guidance document) there is a legal requirement to have adequate methods in place to prevent Legionella within hot and cold water systems. On completion of the course participants will have the knowledge and skills needed to undertake risk assessments and carry out disinfection using a range of methods including bleach, chlorine and silver hydrogen peroxide.

Who it’s for

Anyone who is responsible for installations and systems which are at risk of harbouring the Legionella bacteria, or engineers undertaking work on their behalf. For example: Plumbers, landlords, hotel and guest-house owners, caravan and camp-site operators, local authorities, universities, housing associations, charities, hostels and managing agents.

Entry Requirements

None. Previous knowledge of the regulations is not assumed. However we would advise candidates attend a Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 course first.
