Part P – Defined Scope
BPEC certificated

For individuals who carry out limited electrical work and who want to be able to self certify that work by joining a Defined Scope Competent Persons Scheme.

Description

The purpose of this course is to enable participants to apply for membership of a Part P Defined Scope Competent Persons Scheme.

Part P of the Building Regulations (2005) require that a significant proportion of electrical work carried out in dwellings in England and Wales must be notified to the local Building Control department and a certificate of compliance issued to the householder. Electrical operatives who are not members of a Part P Competent Persons Scheme have to notify Building Control directly of any planned work and they will then send out an inspector to inspect, test and certificate an installation (a significant additional charge will be incurred for this service). Becoming a member of a Competent Persons scheme allows an operative to self-certify their work and the scheme provider will notify the Building Control department on the operatives behalf - no further visit or costs will be incurred from Building Control.

The Defined Scope course covers minor electrical work (level B), successful completion of which will allow participants to apply for membership of a Part P Defined Scope Competent Persons Scheme. This will allow self certification of minor electrical work carried out including work such as fitting an electric shower adding some extra sockets.

Who it’s for

This course is designed for operatives who undertake minor electrical works in association with their main trade activity e.g. plumbing and heating engineers, kitchen fitters, alarm installers and property maintenance engineers.
