Quality Charter
Excellence in achievement from mutual responsibility and respect.
This Charter is not a tablet of stone. It relies on the goodwill of all parties involved, but it does aim to set minimum standards for the college and give you a yardstick by which to judge us.
Your right to opportunity
You have the right to take part in activities and utilise the college services free from harassment or duress. You should be treated on the basis of merit, capacity and potential and not be disadvantaged by gender, race, ethnic or national origin, religious or political beliefs, disability, marital status, age, health, family responsibilities, sexuality, background or any other distinction irrelevant to academic study.
Your right to service and facilities
You can expect college staff to treat you courteously and provide you with a fair, effective and efficient service. The college seeks to ensure that there is a suitable environment and that facilities are in place for the delivery of its academic, social and cultural objectives and it regularly monitors the range and quality of services it offers.
Your right to be informed
You have the right to be provided with information about your progress and any aspects of the college which will affect your time of study, as long as that information is not considered confidential. All information will be given in a clear manner and, within the bounds of reasonable possibility, be true, accurate and complete.
Your right to be represented
You have the right to be represented and helped by a parent, guardian, another student, or member of the college (e.g. a tutor) in appeals or disciplinary procedures.
Your right to comment
In order that the college can deliver the services and facilities that it promises students are encouraged to use opportunities given to them to voice opinions and make suggestions for improvements at the college. If, at any time during their studies at the college, a student feels that the college is not fulfilling its commitments to them as laid down within this Charter, they should bring the matter to the attention of the Quality Department, who will be able to take up the issue on their behalf.
Your responsibility to learn
The primary function of college is education. Students are expected to participate actively in their learning process within the guidelines supplied, to carry out academic work diligently, seek advice from academic staff when required and, where relevant, to participate in tutorial discussions and to complete set coursework.
Your responsibility to seek guidance and support
The college provides, on request, a number of services to support students through their time here. Students are encouraged to seek guidance in the event of any difficulties that they may encounter and are expected to notify relevant college staff should they be unable to fulfill any commitments they have to the college or its staff.
Your responsibility to abide by regulations
As part of their course students may be exposed to hazardous materials and practices bound by regulations. Students are expected to adhere to safe working practices and abide by regulations designed to ensure the safe, efficient and equitable running of its operations. Regulations, as appropriate, will be given to you or displayed.
You responsibility to others
The college is a community of people with diverse interests, aims and desires and actively seeks to promote values that are of benefit to that community; self-reliance, fairness, honesty, courtesy, self-respect and respect for others. You are expected to act in a manner which is of benefit to that community and to respect the rights of others living and working there. You should observe the same high standard of conduct whether at or away from the college.
