Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems
LOGIC Certificated

It is a lawful requirement for anybody servicing, commissioning or installing unvented hot water storage systems to have successfully completed a recognised training and assessment program.

Re-assessment course for anyone who has previously achieved an unvented hot water storage system qualification which has expired and needs renewing.

Description

Since the introduction of the Building Regulations 1985 and the Water Regulations 1999 anybody servicing, commissioning or installing unvented hot water storage systems has a legislative requirement to have successfully completed a recognised training and assessment program. There is also a requirement for “appreciation” training for those whose work involves the specification, inspection or supervision of the installation of such systems. The assessment process requires candidates to demonstrate theoretical knowledge and their practical competence to install, service and maintain these systems. And under new guidelines this competence has to be proven every five years.

Who it’s for

Anybody involved in servicing, commissioning or installing unvented hot water storage systems and those who specify, inspect or supervise the installation of such systems. This qualification is also a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to install, service or maintain domestic solar hot water heating systems.

Entry Requirements

None. But entrants are expected to have a plumbing or heating and ventilating background.

  • The various forms of domestic hot water systems, including unvented systems, for dwellings, small public buildings, small industrial and commercial premises
  • Functional requirements of unvented domestic hot water storage systems and their installation requirements
  • The working principles of various types of unvented hot water storage systems
  • The procedures for the correct method of safe electrical isolation
  • Methods of protecting unvented domestic hot water storage systems from excessive pressure and temperature
  • Designing systems to meet G3 requirements for performance and safety
  • Commissioning unvented domestic hot water storage systems, including the tests necessary to establish correct working of the system
  • The causes of common faults in unvented domestic hot water storage systems and components during use, and determining preventative and correct measures
  • Main sources of reference and statutory requirements and codes of practice relating to the installation, commissioning and maintenance of unvented domestic hot water storage systems

Outcomes

Having successfully completed the course you will be deemed legally competent to work on domestic unvented hot water storage systems and will receive a CITB record of achievement card and will also be entered on the CITB published register of operatives as defined in the BBA MOAT 38: 1986.

Candidates will be provided with a light lunch and refreshments on each day of attendance.

Regulatory requirement?

Yes. Under new guidelines introduced in 2008, competence has to be proven every five years.
